CLASSMATE’S POST
Recognizing individuals who are most vulnerable to disease susceptibility is important because individuals in this high-risk population may further be susceptible to additional diseases given their determinants of health.
The exacerbation of disease outcome may be the result of factors such as socioeconomic status or other conditions that hinder disease recovery. Therefore, it is important to implement specific interventions that address the populations as, without a public health intervention, the disease may be further compounded.
Given this high-risk population, there are mainstream approaches that do not typically work in these groups.
One reason is that high-risk populations may have higher complexities of risk factors which include individual, peer, family, school, communities, and societal domains. These domains must first be addressed with interventions that involve building trust, access, and other modalities that offer a more tailored approach to high-risk populations in order to be successful.
