Unit 1 DB1 Information technology has allowed outreach and made knowledge of global English speaking and nonEnglish speaking countries accessible

Unit 1
DB1
Information technology has allowed outreach and made knowledge of global English speaking and non-English speaking countries accessible to businesses large and small. Furthermore, the Internet offers links to media sources world-wide. Find a story in a global journal/newspaper about a US-based company that had a business issue in a foreign market.
Describe the situation in your own words and make sure to cite and reference the news item and site.
In your own words, itemize some of the ramifications, both positive and negative, of this plethora of information?
WEEK 1:
Interactive:
Choose one student post and determine how his/her company’s business issue was covered in a local U.S source. Compare and contrast the impact of the business coverage from a technological stand point based on the premise that not all countries are technologically equal.
WEEK 2:
Interactive: Select another learner’s post. How was his/her business global issue covered on the company’s Web site? What damage control was done by the company through social media? Do you feel this PR was effective? Why/Why not?
What recommendation would you make for an effective use of social media in the legal environment we live in?
Remember to use APA referencing in the body of your posting.
Background on Course Research Requirements
In the business world it is important to use research to strengthen points that you make in presentations and projects. You will see references to using specific databases throughout this course. Research is a crucial skill and learning to use the search functions in these databases is about critical thinking which complements other research techniques you have used prior to the class.
There are two main types of databases accessible in the library, through “FIND ARTICLES & BOOKS.” Keep in mind that the most popular databases are: ABI Inform Collection, Academic Search Complete, and Business Source Complete. As a graduate student, you must steer away from inferior Web sites with anonymous writers, articles found on consultant Web sites, materials on sites like QuickMBA.com, MarketingProfs.com, etc. Dictionaries and Encyclopedias most often repeat the information from your text. Acceptable Internet resources include among others government sites (especially for statistics).
You are not permitted to use any open-source Web site in this course.

Pepsi Co and Coke American beverage giants, must adhere to the U.S Foreign Corruption Act wherever their businesses may take them. Both companies expanded their U.S businesses to India with differing initial results. Coke came home (initially) and Pepsi Co prospered.

WEEK 3:
Interactive: Select one company other than the 2 mentioned above, and share this company’s experience in the United Arab Emirates. Comment on another learner’s company experience in a different location of the world.
WEEK 4:
Interactive: Comment on a different learner’s company experience in a totally different location from those completed earlier. Do you feel that cultural training is an essential pre-requisite for expatriates in any host country? Why/Why not?
Unit 3
More on DBs
At the end of each unit, DB participation is assessed based on level of engagement and the quality of the contribution to the discussion. DBs allow learners to learn through sharing ideas and experiences as they relate to course content. Because it is not possible to engage in two-way dialogue after a conversation has ended, no posts to the DB are accepted after the end of the unit. Learners must demonstrate an appropriate depth of understanding of course content to receive credit for having submitted substantive posts. Typically, this is achieved with 3–4 strong paragraphs for Main Posts and 2–3 strong paragraphs for Response Posts.
