Reflecting on my life map was an insightful and rewarding experience. This assignment gave me the chance to look back on my journey, the choices that I made, and the experiences that I have had that shaped me to be who I am today from a different perspective. In my PowerPoint, I share my unique experiences and the turning points in my life. Every aspect of my life map, played a significant role in forming my identity, values, and beliefs. My positive experiences in my life map such as becoming a big sister, learning to ride my bike, graduating high school, becoming a mom, and becoming a spouse, gave me confidence to face and overcome challenges and be less afraid to try new ones. The need to want to try new activities and experiences is indicative that a child was successful in the initiative versus guilt stage of Erikson’s psychosocial development theory (Maree, 2021). The negative experiences also had an impact on certain aspects of my life. My negative experiences influenced changes in my behavior and emotions, put a strain on my relationships with others, and derailed my life goals. Like my positive experiences, my negative ones also taught me life lessons such as resiliency and personal growth. Any trip you take requires a map to guide us to our destination. Our life’s map is found within the Bible. Psalm 119:19 says that we are only travelers here on earth, and the best route to our destination is through scripture (New International Version, 1978/2011, Psalm 119:19). It is important for me to acknowledge my past experiences to see how I have progressed through life while gaining a deeper understanding of myself, my purpose, and my relationships with others.

I have been very fortunate and blessed in my life. From the location of where I live to my relationships I am blessed to have, my faith in the Lord and family becoming healthier. I am grateful for the many gifts that God has given me. This did not come over night. I have had many struggles and battles with my mental health, relationships, faith, family and friends. Throughout my time trying to find my way I have found that the Lord is the only constant. Being able to rely on him through the trials and be dependent upon him has been the ultimate source of peace in my life. A Verse that has helped me through trials is “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid (New International Version, 1978/2011, John 14:27). This verse has been something I read when I am in trials.

I believe that I have a unique resilient identity and feel confident for future endeavors. A peer reviewed journal highlights the importance of this, “What emerged from the narratives about resilience and adversity were accounts of expressions of resilience that reflected the importance in having a resilient identity” (Manning, L. K., 2020) My strong faith coupled with my resilient identity has given me hope and confidence for my future. I am ultimately grateful for the trials I have been through because I wouldn’t have grown and changed in the ways the Lord planned for me without them.
